Lunch in Somerville shouldn’t require a strategy, yet here we are, parking in a triple-decker’s shadow and praying. This list is the excuse you need to quit the sad desk salad.

We traded our usual rotation for everything from a duck leg with mulberry jam at Dali to hand-cut fries at Trina’s Starlite Lounge, and yes, I ate twice. The smashed potatoes at Salt + Stone nearly caused a scene.

One place even got me to order a beer and a shot before 2 p.m.

So, pick a direction and go eat.
